2nd Passover Observation

There are a great lessons to be learned in the second Passover.

2nd PassoverBoth Passover (4/6/12) and 2nd Passover (5/6/12) are about the personal redemption of a man and his family back to his heavenly Father. I find it very interesting that it is the only feast of YHVH where we have a chance to become as “one born in the land” a second time, if we were unclean or on a journey (away from our family) in the first month.

The one thing that YHVH promised Abraham over and over again was that his ‘seed’ would be united with the ‘land’. Passover is our one chance per year to become Abraham’s true ‘seed’, his heir; and we get two chances to do it. The sons of Israel became as “one born in the land” by partaking in the Passover according to YHVH’s ways just before they left Egypt and the great majority of them had never even seen the land. This is the “Born Again’ experience!

Numbers chapter nine describes this second Passover.

And YHVH spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying, Let the sons of Israel also keep the passover at His appointed season. In the fourteenth day of this month, at evening, ye shall keep it in His appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

And Moses spake unto the sons of Israel, that they should keep the passover. And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that YHVH commanded Moses, so did the sons of Israel.

And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day: And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of YHVH in His appointed season among the sons of Israel?

And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what YHVH will command concerning you. And YHVH spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto YHVH. The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it. [My Born Again Series, especially Parts 5 and 6 discuss these ordinances of the Passover in detail.]

But the man who is clean, and is not in a journey, and refuses to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of YHVH in His appointed season, that man shall bear his sin. And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto YHVH; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was ‘born in the land’. (Num 9:1-14)

Do we really believe that YHVH does not change and that His word endures forever; or is it all just our lip service. I fear, for most (at least concerning Passover) it is the latter. Yeshua said:

“Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.  Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups [your Seder, your communion, your Easter]: and many other such like things you do. And he said unto them, full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own traditions.” (Mar 7:6-9)

I was writing about the man who refuses to keep the Passover a few days ago, making note that that man is to be cut off from among his people (Israel). But while I meditated on the verse as I was falling asleep I was shocked by what I had read. For this portion in Numbers chapter 9 (quoted above) said that man shall bear his own sin because He failed to keep the Passover.

Think about it! The man who keeps a Passover according to the ordinances of YHVH then, will NOT bear his own sin. Keeping a true Passover does not dishonor what Yeshua did for us but likely is the very means in which we can take advantage of or incorporate what Yeshua did for us, as the lamb of Elohim, into our lives. Our Passover lambs, both before Yeshua was killed and after, all remind us of what Yeshua (YHVH’s lamb) would do and then did do for us.

The man who refuses to keep the Passover each year is not allowed to remain as one of YHVH’s people (Israel) and that man bears his own sin. That is not going to happen to me! How about you?

This is not going to happen to us! We keep the Passover correctly, thanks to your teaching Michael.

    Hello Michael,

We had bronchitis really bad here during our first passover, and so are going to do it again on May 6th. I am considering doing a real passover, however, my husband, while not against Torah, is not Torah observant. Would it be wrong to have him do the slaughtering of the animal? There is no way that I could do it! LOL. I am still investigating and praying about this. Thank you for all of you teachings!

Oh Dodi – you touch my heart with your willingness to follow Yehovah as He desires.

It is really the ger, the man that is circumcised in his heart and has turned all his ways to Torah that Yehovah says can, and should, draw near and keep the Passover. As your covering your man needs to become one of these men first.

As I recall, you live in western Washington. At our Passover we had to families from central Washington who came to learn how to do it in May 6th. I think they would be open to having you join them or perhaps even coming to your place, as I think they really need a place. There is also a man and his wife from Arizona that would love to join them also. I’ll bet your husband would really like to meet these fine men an their families.

      Just a thought!
