Their Elohim is exceedingly fond of them

Yehovah's special treasure, Elohim is exceedingly fond of themAt our last meeting we read that Jacob’s 2 sons, Simeon (12) and Levi (11) saved their sister Dinah (8) from the house of Shechem when they killed all the men of that wicked city. In today’s lesson we will learn that even the Canaanites understand that Jacob and His sons Elohim is exceedingly fond of them.

When we had to stop last time we saw that 7 kings of Canaan had come with 10,000 men to destroy Jacob and his household. They seemed like the sands of the sea in number and Jacob was afraid. But the boys displayed great faith.

Yasher 34:59 And Judah said unto Simeon and Levi, and unto all his brothers, Strengthen yourselves and be sons of valor, for Yehovah our Elohim is with us, do not fear them.
60 Stand forth each man, girt with his weapons of war, his bow and his sword, and we will go and fight against these uncircumcised men; Yehovah is our Elohim, He will save us.

Oh – how I love the faith I see in these sons of Jacob! Both Jacob and his father Isaac then prayed to Yehovah for deliverance. Here is a portion of that prayer.

Yasher 34:66 Now therefore, O Yehovah Elohim, Elohim of the whole earth, pervert, I pray thee, the counsel of these kings that they may not fight against my sons.
67 And impress the hearts of these kings and their people with the terror of my sons and bring down their pride, and that they may turn away from my sons.
68 And with thy strong hand and outstretched arm deliver my sons and their servants from them, for power and might are in thy hands to do all this.

Their Elohim is exceedingly fond of them

Yasher 35:2 And Yehovah heard the prayers of Isaac and Jacob, and He filled the hearts of all these kings’ advisers with great fear and terror that they unanimously exclaimed,
3 Are you silly this day, or is there no understanding in you, that you will fight with the Hebrews, and why will you take a delight in your own destruction this day?

Now the Canaanites remembered all the things which Yehovah has done for Abraham, Jacob, with Esau two years earlier and now the two sons who destroyed a whole city.

Yasher 35:4 Behold two of them came to the city of Shechem without fear or terror, and they killed all the inhabitants of the city, that no man stood up against them, and how will you be able to fight with them all?
5 Surely you know that their God is exceedingly fond of them, and has done mighty things for them, such as have not been done from days of old, and amongst all the gods of nations, there is none who can do like unto his mighty deeds.

They remembered Abraham’s walk with Yehovah

Yasher 35;6 Surely he delivered their father Abraham, the Hebrew, from the hand of Nimrod, and from the hand of all his people who had many times sought to slay him [Nimrod tried to kill him at his birth].
7 He delivered him also from the fire in which king Nimrod had cast him, and his Elohim delivered him from it [from Nimrod’s fiery furnace].
8 And who else can do the like? Surely it was Abraham who slew the five kings of Elam, when they had touched his brother’s son who in those days dwelt in Sodom [When Abraham killed 800,000 men with 325 men].

They even knew the story of Isaac’s deliverance from the knife of his father on Moriah.

I think the Canaanites knew better than we do now what it means to be Yehovah’s Hebrew, called-out, people and what their Elohim is capable of. Oh – if only we understood that “their Elohim IS exceedingly fond of them.”

Yehovah LOVES the man who will leave the kingdom of His birth and make Him his only Elohim (his only lawmaker and judge). Listen to what he said about His called-out men once they had left Egypt with Him.

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to Israel’s son.” Exo 19:5-6

For you are a holy people to Yehovah your Elohim, and Yehovah has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. (Deu 14:2)

After all of this, we can now finally see why Genesis says,

And they journeyed, and the terror of Elohim was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob. (Gen 35:5)

This story helps me remember why I left my old elohim and made myself completely Yehovah’s man in 2000. I wanted to be one of them that Elohim is exceedingly fond of.

Number 36 and Yasher 36 is all about men who refuse to join themselves to Yehovah and His called-out people. They choose for themselves,  kings that are not from among the brethren and follow the statutes and judgments of their lawmakers and judges, their elohim. These men are the sons of Esau, and the world is full of men like them today.

And for those who ignorantly believe that there are no mistakes in Torah; this chapter is probably the best example that there are mistakes.

So much to learn, so little time. Today’s lesson begins below.

  1. How much validity can be put in the book of Yasher? I know of its mention in Scripture but how can it be held as authentic and as an equivocal truth paralleled with the Word of Yehovah?

I guess my heart needs to be fully persuaded in this book along with Enoch which so many seem to trust in? I’m not there yet.

    1. This is a great comment Jason. I know exactly how you feel. There are some things in Yasher that seem pretty far fetched. But there is no other book out there, that I have found, which has revealed so much truth in Torah for me. Truth that I might never have discovered except for Yasher. I am not a fan of Enoch at all, but I constantly hear the voice of Yehovah in Yasher and have gained much understanding concerning the hearts of Israel’s ancient fathers. Try reading it in conjunction with Torah going back and forth between the two. I think you will be amazed by what you find.

Here is a short article I put together to introduce folks to Yasher. I hope you will check it out also.

Oh, in that same article I also included my working copy of Yasher with many notes and comments for download.
