genesis 17, my covenant, my cutting,

Genesis 17 – My Covenant / My Cutting

Abram, what an amazing man he was;  he had the ability (after walking with the Creator for almost 100 years) to hear the voice of Yehovah and do what He requested. In Genesis 17 Yehovah speaks to Abram in a vision and gives him a new name (Abraham); and Sarai, bone of his bone and the flesh of his flesh, also gets a new name (Sarah).

The name Abram [אברהם] is spelled (right to left) aleph, bet, resh, mem and means “Exalted Father” or “High Father.” He is the father of the spiritual seed who dwell in heaven; men who have left their elohim (the lawmakers and judges of their birth) whom they previously served and now follow Abram as he follows THE Elohim and Creator of all things.

The addition of the “hey, [ה]” to Abram’s name made it Abraham [אברהם], and this “hey” added yet another dimension to his high or exalted fatherhood, it adds an eternal dimension.

Genesis 17 is the prelude to Genesis 18 which describes the birth of the spiritual man, Isaac, at the “Time of Life” which falls on the “appointed time” or the “moed.” The “Time of Life” is what Passover was called before it was called Passover. The “Time of Life” (the time that Isaac was born) and the Passover (the time which Israel’s seed was, and is, born) are tied together in the Torah in many ways. The 430 year time-line from Exodus 12, the 400 year prophecy from Genesis 15, the words “that very same day” in Genesis 17 and Exodus 12, the “appointed time” of Genesis 17, Genesis 18, Leviticus 23, Exodus 12 and others.

Genesis 17 – My Covenant / My Cutting

However, the tie between Genesis 17 (the “Time of Life”) and Exodus 12 (Passover), which I want you to see clearly today, is about what Yehovah calls “My cutting” [בריתי]. It is a compound word that is used 23 times in the Torah, 9 times in Genesis 17 alone. Be·ri·ti’ is translated in most bibles as “My Covenant,” but I believe this to be yet another religious word designed to mislead and distract men, who wish to seek and pursue righteous.

And I will make My cutting between Me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.” (Genesis 17:2)

As for Me, behold, My cutting is with thee, and thou shall be a father of many people. (Genesis 17:4)

Yehovah cutting and Abram’s “fatherhood” seem to be connected.

As I said, be·ri·ti’ [בריתי] is a compound word; the suffix “י” [yad], when added to a noun, says “my.” The Hebrew word that the yad is being added to, in this case, is be·rit’ [ברית], which means “a cutting.” Together they say, “My Cutting.”

Again, we get trapped by these religious words, and few people have seen what I am trying to show you today; even Jeff Benner in his Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible wants to call the Hebrew word be·rit’ a “covenant;” but read carefully how he defines the be·rit’.

[ברית]
“A covenant is instituted through a sacrifice of a choice, fatted, animal which is cut into two and the parties of the covenant pass through the pieces. If one party fails to meet the agreements of the covenant then the other may do the same to them. (see Genesis 15:10,17 and Jeremiah 34:18-20)”

Now read it again and substitute the word “cutting” for “covenant.”

Here are the verses he suggests that we read. We do not cut a covenant; the cutting IS the agreement; and passing through the pieces seals the agreement! Oh my – this is so cool!

Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. (Gen 15:10)

And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. (Gen 15:17)

And I will give the men who have transgressed My covenant [בריתי, be·ri·ti’], who have not performed the words of the covenant [ברית, be·rit’] which they made before Me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts of it the princes of Judah, the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf I will give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. Their dead bodies shall be for meat for the birds of the heaven and the beasts of the earth. (Jer 34:18-20)

Genesis 17: 10 – His Cutting

And now look at what Yehovah says what His cutting actually is!

This is My cutting which you all [men] shall keep, between Me and you all and thy seed after thee: every male among you shall be circumcised. (Genesis 17:10)

The cutting that Abraham made, and the cutting that all the spiritual seed of our “high father” made, and will make, is circumcision! And all our seed will pass through the literal cutting when they are conceived.

Genesis 17 goes on to describe who is to be circumcised.

  • Genesis 17:11 Abraham
  • Genesis 17:10 Every male of Abraham’s house (We are talking about his gates, he has over 1000 men with him at this point.)
  • Genesis 17:12 The 8 day old male and every male bought with money (these are permanent servants)
  • Genesis 17:13 He who was born in Abram’s house

But understanding this cutting goes still deeper. As I said, Genesis 17 is a prelude to Genesis 18; and we will see that it is fundamental to our understanding what is happening in Exodus 12. Please take note of who is to be circumcised in Exodus BEFORE the Ger can draw near and eat the Passover and become as one born in the land; or what must happen before the Passover / the “Time of Life,” the moed, appointed time that Isaac was born AND the moed that all Israel’s seed is born.

  • But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. (Exo 12:44)
  • And when a stranger [Ger] dwells with thee and wants to keep the Passover to Yehovah, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land [Ezrach]. For no uncircumcised person [always men] shall eat it. (Exo 12:48)

Ishmael was not the promised and spiritually born seed.

  • Ishmael did not come from Abraham’s body; Hagar was “a woman” given to him by Sarah who was “bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh.” Oh – and Hagar did not get a new name, only Sarah did.
  • The birth of Ishmael does not fit both the 400 year prophecy, or the 430 years to that “very same day” of Exodus 12.
  • Ishmael never passed through Abraham cutting; while Isaac, the spiritually born seed, did.

Genesis 17 is just preparation for the coming big event which is prophesied in Genesis 18, the “Time of Life.” Here is a much more in-depth teaching on Genesis 17. I hope you will enjoy it.

Yehovah’s Servants (6) – Redeemed From Among Men

The number “144,000” comes from the NT commentaries, NOT Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging word; and because of that, it is not a number that I am going to “hang my hat on.” But Yehovah is, even now, raising up a people (men) who will serve only Him in these last days, just as He said He would.

[Note: This series is best understood from the beginning; here is Part 1.]

redeemed from among menAnd who is like Thy people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom Elohim [the lawmaker and judge] went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name—and to do for thyself great and awesome deeds for thy land—before thy people whom Thou redeemed for thyself from Egypt, the nations, and their elohim? For Thou have made Thy people, Israel thy very own people forever; and Thou, Yehovah, have become their Elohim. (2Sa 7:23-24)

But now, thus says Yehovah, who created thee, O Jacob [flesh birth], and He who formed thee, O Israel [spiritual birth]: “Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name; thou are Mine. When thou pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee. When thou walk through the fire, thou shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch thee. For I am Yehovah, thy Elohim, the Holy One of Israel, thy savior; I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in thy place. Since thou are precious in My sight, thou has been honored, and I have loved thee; therefore I will give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not, for I am with thee; I will bring thy descendants [seed, spiritual men] from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters [a woman is a daughter if she is bone of her man’s bone] from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isa 43:1-7)

Oh, give thanks to Yehovah, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of Yehovah say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy [other men – belial’s seed], and gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way; they found no city to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they cried out to Yehovah in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses; and He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to an encampment for a dwelling place. (Psa 107:1-7)

These “servants” of Yehovah in Jeremiah 23 are called by many names; the banner, the branch of righteousness, his arm, the male-child, the Ezrach man, Israel’s seed, the watchmen, a people great and strong, and a wild ox, just to name a few. This people is true Israel, the men Yehovah is raising up to be His shalachim, His sent ones, in the coming last days. And these are the men who are redeemed from among men. I talk about all these names in my video called the “144,000 in the scriptures.”

But what does it mean to be “redeemed from among men,” and how and when does it happen?

The word redeemed is the Hebrew word ga·al’ [גאל]; and a man is redeemed by his near of kin.

H1350    גַּאל    gā’al: A verb meaning to redeem or act as a kinsman-redeemer. The word means to act as a redeemer for a deceased kinsman (Rth_3:13); to redeem or buy back from bondage (Lev_25:48)

Yehovah told Moses, to tell pharaoh, to “let Israel, My son, My firstborn go that he may serve  me.” And through Isaiah He says,

For thus says Yehovah: “You have sold yourselves for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.” (Isa_52:3)

Right now we (men) can leave our Egypt freely and choose to serve only Yehovah; and then, at Passover, become Yehovah’s spiritual seed (His son) and the first-fruits of His spiritual kingdom.

They sang, as it were, a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth. (4) These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes Yehovah. These were redeemed from among men, being first-fruits to Elohim. and to the Lamb. (Rev 14:3-4)

[Note: You will have to read part 5 of this series to understand my very purposeful strike-outs above.]

All Israel’s first-fruits and those males who open the womb (the matrix) always belong to Yehovah. We bring the first-fruits and our first-born to Yehovah because He is the one who gives us the increase of our body, our animals, and the things that come from the ground (which he also gave to us). It is during Shavuot that we bring the first-fruits of the wheat harvest to wave before Yehovah; and it will be on Shavuot that Yehovah seals and sets-apart those shepherds who are redeemed from among men for His purpose.

All men come from the dust and they all will also return to the dust.

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” (Gen 3:19)

All flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust. (Job 34:15)

You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. (Psa 104:29)

All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust. (Ecc 3:20)

But these servants are like Noah, wholly righteous men (enoshim); and, like him, they too will be coming through the last days of our world alive. And more, they will be “the great ones” in the millennial kingdom and the rulers, the el, over each of their gates.

I have a hunch that all these spiritually born men, true Ezrach Israel, the virgin,  those who separated themselves from the world in order to wholly follow Yehovah in all His ways, may never die. Their women, their children and perhaps even their servants who come through  the destruction of the earth with them may eventually perish in the new world. But is it possible that these spiritual men, selected and set-apart by Yehovah to be redeemed from the earth may live for the whole 1000 years?

The way of Yehovah is strength for the upright, but destruction will come to the workers of iniquity. The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not inhabit the earth. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut out. (Pro 10:29-31)

Behold, the day of Yehovah comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it. (Isa 13:9)

For Yehovah loves justice, and does not forsake His saints (his khaw·seed); they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever. (Psa 37:28-29)

“Gather My saints (My khaw·seed) together to Me, those who have cut a covenant with Me by slaughter.” (Psa 50:5)

Regardless of whether or not they live the whole of the 1000 years, what is important is that they will be renewed in their strength and there will be no week or feeble men among them; regardless of their present age and physical condition.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting Elohim, Yehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. … but those who wait on Yehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isa 40:28-31)

The world will be in awe of these wholly righteous men who speak and act on behalf of Yehovah. Next time I will discuss how these shepherds will carry themselves during Israel’s three and one half years in the wilderness.

A Prophet Like Moses

A prophet like MosesTwice in Deuteronomy we read that a prophet like Moses would be born.

“Yehovah, thy Elohim [thy lawmaker and judge], will raise up for thee a Prophet like me (a prophet like Moses) from thy midst, from thy brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all thou desired of Yehovah, thy Elohim, in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of Yehovah, my Elohim, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’
“And Yehovah said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you (a prophet like Moses) from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. (Deu 18:15-19)

Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so Israel’s seed heeded him, and did as Yehovah had commanded Moses. But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom Yehovah knew face to face. (Deu 34:9-10)

This prophet speaks Yehovah’s words in Yehovah’s name; no other words or names!

How else is this prophet like Moses?

Moses was born for a specific purpose. Just before he was born, Moses’ sister Miriam prophesied saying, a male-child would be born who would save Israel (not the Egyptians) from the hands of Egypt.

Yasher 68:1 And it was at that time the spirit of Elohim was upon Miriam the daughter of Amram the sister of Aaron, and she went forth and prophesied about the house, saying, Behold a male-child will be born unto us from my father and mother this time, and he will save Israel from the hands of Egypt.

And Israel was saved by the the mighty arm of Yehovah working through Moses. As I see it this “prophet” is the “seed of the woman” who was spoken of in the garden just before Adam (and his woman followed him) was kicked out of the garden by Yehovah.

And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman [Yehovah’s spiritually born men], and between your seed [those who live their lives in the flesh] and her seed [the seed of spiritually born men]; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” (Gen 3:15)

Oh – we get so confused when we think in the flesh and ignore the things of the spirit. A woman has no seed! But the spiritual man is born of flesh AND spirit. This is the difference between those who dwell on the earth and those who dwell in heaven.

The Israel who was delivered from Egypt were the spiritually born men who were not allowed to leave until right after the Passover in which they became Ezrach, spiritually born, 2nd born men.

Ecclesiastes says,

That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, “See, this is new?” It has already been in ancient times before us. (Ecc 1:9-10)

Just like the male-child delivered Israel out of Egypt the first time, Continue reading A Prophet Like Moses

Getting Started

New to Hebrew roots and just getting started in the faith that Yeshua (Jesus) lived and taught? Here is series of FIVE progressive articles and videos designed to teach people how to study and understand the word for themselves.

We have all been trained to walk on the broad road; we have gone to broad road schools, watched broad road TV, listened to broad road radio and read broad road newspapers. We have become civilized according to the doctrines and commandments and traditions of men and have never learned the ways of Yehovah (the LORD). Now is the time to repent, join ourselves to Yehovah’s people, True Israel and begin our walk on the narrow road.

The first thing everyone needs is a great Bible study Program; e-Sword is Free and very powerful. You MUST have it and learn to use it if you want to learn to be holy as Yehovah is holy.

Now we must find out who this “Church,” this ecclesia, this “called out People of Yehovah Elohim” are. To do this, please read Defining the Church.
