Joseph – Road To Egypt

Road to Egypt, Joseph, Yasher 42, Yasher 43, Yasher 44,Genesis 37 begins with these words.  “Now Jacob dwelt in the land where his Father was a stranger.” Yet, Joseph’s road to Egypt began with the words of Israel.

And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” So he said to him, “Here I am.” (Gen 37:13)

Also I heard the voice of my Master, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me!” (Isa 6:8)

Why was it Israel and not Jacob who sent Joseph to his brothers? I think it is because this journey is of Yehovah and today we will see His hand in every step in Joseph’s road to Egypt.

We saw last time in “Joseph and family rejection” that Yehovah even sent a messenger to Joseph at Shechem to get Joseph to his brothers. Genesis calls him “a certain man,” but Yasher calls him an angel of Yehovah, His messenger (a man).

Today we will see that the brothers saw the Ishmaelites coming from the north and decided to sell Joseph to them; but before they arrived some Midianite (מדינים – mid-ya-Nim) traders coming from the south rescued Joseph and planned on keeping him. But when the brothers saw that Joseph was safe, they threatened the Midianites, who called them on their lies, with violence. The sons of Jacob are scary guys.

Yasher 42:12 And behold Simeon rose up from his seat against them, and sprang upon the ground and drew his sword and approached the Midianites and he gave a terrible shout before them, so that his shouting was heard at a distance, and the earth shook at Simeon’s shouting.
13 And the Midianites were terrified on account of Simeon and the noise of his shouting, and they fell upon their faces, and were excessively alarmed.

Mighty Men Begin To Roar On The Earth

mighty men, roar like a lion, lion's roar, Isaiah 5 29, Jeremiah 4 6-7, Numbers 24 8-9, last days
This portion of the book of Yasher which we are covering today is one of my very favorites; it is a shadow picture of things to come. Yehovah is now raising up mighty men [a 144,000 ish, His servants, the good shepherds] who will serve only Him; mighty men whom He can use to take back all the earth for Himself in the coming last days. The mighty men found in these chapters are men that the world has not seen in a very long time. They are just like the mighty men described in Joel 2.

The Mighty Men Will Roar

They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. Though they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down. they run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall; they climb into the houses, they enter at the windows like a thief. (Joe 2:7-9)

These mighty men whom Yehovah is currently raising up seem quite the opposite right now. They look weak, lame and poor in their flesh but they are mighty men in their spirit. Yehovah says through Isaiah,

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting Elohim (lawmaker and judge), Yehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths [these are the young boys who never get tired] shall faint and be weary, and the young men [these are the mighty men in the flesh, the military men who serve other elohim]  shall utterly fall. But those who wait on Yehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isa 40:28-31)

Jacob is now 105 years old and he has just moved his family from Hebron, where his dad Isaac lives, back to Shechem and his good and fat pasture which is there. But the Canaanites that live around the city of Shechem are not happy to see Jacob or his sons. Continue reading Mighty Men Begin To Roar On The Earth

Yehovah’s Promise To Jacob

Jacob (77), after being robbed by Eliphaz the son of Esau in Shechem, turns back towards Haran once he received Yehovah’s promise; but he arrives in Haran as a beggar, instead of a prince.

Here is Yehovah’s promise

Yasher 30:1 … and he came as far as mount Moriah, and he tarried there all night near the city of Luz; and Yehovah appeared there unto Jacob on that night, and he said unto him, I am Yehovah Elohim (lawmaker and judge) of Abraham and the Elohim of Isaac thy father; the land upon which thou liest I will give unto thee and thy seed.
2 And behold I am with thee and will keep thee wherever thou goest, and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of Heaven, and I will cause all thine enemies to fall before thee; and when they shall make war with thee they shall not prevail over thee, and I will bring thee again unto this land with joy, with sons, and with great riches.
3 And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he rejoiced greatly at the vision which he had seen; and he called the name of that place Bethel.

Yehovah's promiseThe first person of the house of Laban, his mother’s brother, who Jacob finds is his cousin Rachel (22); she and her older sister (Leah) are twins. When Jacob sees Rachel he kisses her and weeps.

Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept. (Gen 29:11)

“Why is he weeping?” I always asked myself. Now, because of Yasher, I know the answer.

Yasher 30:8 And when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, he ran and kissed her, and lifted up his voice and wept.
9 And Jacob told Rachel that he was the son of Rebecca, her father’s sister, and Rachel ran and told her father, and Jacob continued to cry because he had nothing with him to bring to the house of Laban.
10 And when Laban heard that his sister’s son Jacob had come, he ran and kissed him and embraced him and brought him into the house and gave him bread, and he ate.
11 And Jacob related to Laban what his brother Esau had done to him, and what his son Eliphaz had done to him in the road.

Jacob lived  with Laban for a full month before they came to an agreement. Continue reading Yehovah’s Promise To Jacob

The Spiritual Son Is Born

the spiritual son is born
Abraham is now 99 years old. The messengers of Yehovah came to him on the moed (the Time of Life / the Passover) to tell him that Sarah is going to bear a son at the Time of Life the following year. Abraham has been told by Yehovah several times that he is going to be the father of many nations. Twelve months and counting until the spiritual son (who is a shadow picture of all Yehovah’s spiritual sons, His ezrach who are born a second time at the Passover each year) is born.

But Abraham has this spring gone to Gerar, to the kingdom of the Philistines and their king, Abimelech. When he gets there he begins to fear for his life and commands Sarah to say that she is his sister, instead of his wife. She really is his niece, the daughter of Haran who is Abraham’s brother. Yes – he lied!

THIS, is the climax of the story, the time that Sarah must be impregnated by Abraham to bear the spiritual son and she has just been given to Abimelech as HIS wife. Augh!

What Yehovah does to deliver Sarah and restore her to Abraham is an amazing story, especially in Yasher; and in Genesis 20 the discerning eye will see that much is missed in the English translations of the Hebrew scriptures.

What Yehovah says, Yehovah does! And in the 4th month Yehovah visited Sarah and she bore the spiritual son, Isaac, at the set time, the moed, as Elohim (Abraham’s lawmaker and judge) had spoken.

And Yehovah visited Sarah as He had said, and Yehovah did for Sarah as He had spoken. For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which Elohim had spoken to him. (Gen 21:1-2)

Yasher 21:1 And in the fourth month of Abraham’s dwelling in the land of the Philistines in Gerar, that Elohim visited Sarah, and Yehovah remembered her, and she conceived and bare a son to Abraham.

Genesis 21 tells the story of the great feast which Abraham gave when Isaac was weaned but we have no clue in Torah as to how great a feast this was. Yasher fills in these details marvelously!

Intentional And Unintentional Sin

TzitzitI am amazed at how much we, who call ourselves Yehovah’s people, are involved in unintentional sin. The more I study Torah the more I see just how far we have gone away from Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging ways. But there is something worse than unintentional sin, it is the sin which is done openly for all to see and emulate; this open rebellion bring a reproach on Yehovah!

This chapter (Numbers 15) finishes with a discussions of why only Yehovah’s son, the Ezrach, wear tzitzit and is certainly related to unintentional sin for many today.

In the first part of Numbers 16 we will see 254 men, leaders of Yehovah people, who “look” honorable but are the first to be destroyed at the beginning of our 40 years in the wilderness; all because we would not believe Yehovah and hear and obey Moses.

Korah Leads A Revolt

KorahIn our second year in the wilderness Korah leads a revolt against Moses and Aaron.

Yehovah’s rebellious people have just found out that they must remain in the wilderness for 40 years because they refuse to follow His word and ways given to them through Moses. Sound familiar?

Here is a case where little leaven can spoil the whole loaf. The men who die first are some of Israel’s most respected leaders and princes, including Korah, Dathan and Abiram; and after that, thousands more are killed by Yehovah because they will not listen to Moses. Only two men, over 20 years old, out of 600,000+ men will survive the 40 years because they were not apart of this rebellious people. Now is the time to come out of the kingdom of our birth and learn to follow only Moses.

We too are getting ready to go into the wilderness for a bit over 3 1/2 years; that is assuming we are wise enough to become one of Yehovah set-apart men, or at least join ourselves to them when the pillars of fire and smoke appear over them all over the earth. Will we survive in Yehovah’s camp? Or will we also be some of His rebellious people who will need to be destroyed before He brings us into His the millennial kingdom? Will we learn from history, or repeat it?
