What Is a Man That You Remember Him…?

what is a man“What is a man [אנושׁ – enoosh, pronounced e-noosh’] that You remember him, and the son [בנ – ben] of man [אדם – adam] that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the Elohim (God, not angels), and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen– even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. O Yehovah, our master, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” Psa 8:4-9

“What is a man [אנושׁ enoosh], that You should exalt him, that You should set Your heart on him, that You should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?” (Job 7:17-18)

“Thou turns a man [אנושׁ enoosh] to contrition; and says: ‘Return, you son of man [אדם – adam].” (Psa 90:3)

The psalmist quoted above wrote what is a man [אנושׁ enoosh] that You “remember” and ” visit” him? Yehovah, our Creator, made the man to have dominion over the earth. Unfortunately for men today (belial’s seed in the earth), this is not the case because of our rebellion to Yehovah’s ways and our love for the ways of men.

What is a man? Yehovah is mindful of the אנושׁ (enoosh] (not men in general) who will acknowledge their mortal ways and humbly make Yehovah’s ways their ways. He does not even hear the prayer of a man who does not love His Torah, His instructions concerning how all men are to live and guide their families.  Knowing who we are in relation to our Creator will give our minds a clearer image to build His truth on and the right attitudes to commune with Him as He desires.

What Is A Man (Enoosh)?

The Hebrew word אנושׁ (enoosh) is a very interesting word. The Complete WordStudy Dictionary defines enoosh (H582) this way.

A masculine noun meaning man.

And Strong’s says,

H582 אנושׁ  e -nooshe’
From H605; properly a mortal (and thus differing from the more dignified H120); hence a man in general (singly or collectively).

The word אנושׁ (enoosh) describes a man, never a woman and can be used in the singular (as a man) or in the plural (as men). But I see more in this word than I find in WordStudy or Strong’s; this man knows His own mortality / frailty and that of his fellow-man who believe they are in charge of their own destiny. A righteous man, who calls himself an enoosh, understands that His  service is due to the Creator, his lawmaker and judge for his short life.

“All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him; ‘What have You done?’ Dan 4:35

“The voice said; ‘Cry out!’ And he said; ‘What shall I cry?’ All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of Yehovah blows upon it; surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our Elohim (lawmaker, judge) stands forever.” Isa 40:6-8

Here are some examples of how אנושׁ enoosh is used in the scriptures; for me, how a word is used in the context of Yehovah’s word helps us defines all His words more correctly.

“Behold, happy is a mortal man [אנושׁ enoosh] whom Elohim corrects; therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.” (Job 5:17)

“Arise, Yehovah, do not let a mortal man [אנושׁ enoosh] prevail; let the people be judged in Your sight. Put them in fear, Yehovah, that the people may know themselves to be but a mortal man [אנושׁ enoosh]. Selah” (Psa 9:19-20)

“For I was envious of the boastful, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no pangs in their death, but their strength is firm. They are not in misery as other mortal men [אנושׁ enoosh], nor are they plagued like man [אדם adam].”  (Psa 73:3-5)

“Wail, for the day of Yehovah is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore all hands will be limp, every mortal man’s [אנושׁ enoosh] heart will melt, and they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in childbirth.” (Isa 13:6-8)

“The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell in it are desolate. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few mortal men [אנושׁ enoosh] are left. “(Isa 24:5-6)

“Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, you people in whose heart is My law: Do not fear the reproach of mortal men [אנושׁ enoosh], nor be afraid of their insults.” (Isa 51:7)

“Blessed is the mortal man [אנושׁ enoosh] who does this, and a son [בנ] of a man [אדם adam] who lays hold on it; who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” (Isa 56:2)

What is a man (אנושׁ – enoosh) that Yehovah God, THE Elohim (THE lawmaker and judge of the whole earth) visits him?

“But Yehovah is the true Elohim; He is the living Elohim and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, and the people will not be able to endure His indignation.” Jer 10:10

“For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, [the enoosh who knows his own mortality] to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isa 57:15

The אנושׁ (enoosh) who dwells with the High and Lofty One is the אנושׁ (enoosh) with a humble spirit and a contrite heart; a man who knows his own mortality, the fear of the living Elohim and trembles before Him. He is the man who dwells in heaven even as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and so many other have.

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. and he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is Elohim.” (Heb 11:8-10)

The אנושׁ (enoosh) whom Elohim comes to visit knows his own mortality /frailty and that he is Yehovah’s humble servant.

Right now Yehovah is raising up His servants of this time His אנושׁ (enoosh men) who will leave the country of their birth and the covenants that go with it, join themselves to a new kingdom and Elohim and then enter into covenant with Him at a true Exodus 12 Passover.

“What is a man (אנושׁ – enoosh)that You remember him, and the son [בנ ben] of man [אדם adam] that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the Elohim (God, not angels), and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen– even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas. O Yehovah, our master, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!” Psa 8:4-9

The enoosh [אנושׁ – mortal man] who will humble himself and make Yehovah’s ways, his ways, will be a great one in Yehovah’s kingdom; a man who will be crowned with glory and honor and immortality and  have dominion over the works of His hands, and have all things under their feet. These are the ones who were the least in the kingdoms of men but soon will be the great ones in Yehovah’s kingdom because they have laid down their lives to serve only Him.

But none of this addresses a woman. Part 2 will be called “What is Woman?” So get ready and hold on to your seats, it may be a rough ride for many who love the doctrines and traditions of men more than Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging words.
