Abraham was a man who followed Yehovah all the  days of his life. What were Abraham’s gates like?

In part 1 of this “…within thy gates” series we saw that it was the Ezrach man who leads the very large and extended multi-generational family, or perhaps, compound. I really like the word compound when it is used with the idea of family, extended family, and men who are joining themselves to the family of Yehovah – all those who are living within thy gates. The compound is a place of safety from the world, a place of provision (food and shelter) and a place where men can come and be taught to know Yehovah and His eternal and unchanging ways.

The “thy” is the overseer and the man that every other man in the compound would refer to as their adon, their master. He is the head Ezrach; and like Noah, Abraham, Moses and each of the 144,000 servants of Yehovah, he serves only Yehovah.

Great men come from humble beginning; when they leave the kingdom of their birth they are rejected and persecuted by the world. Consider Abraham, Moses and the 144,000; all servants of Yehovah, their Elohim (their new law-maker and judge).

What is our understanding of Abraham’s gates? What did his gates, his compound, look like? What do you see when Abram leaves Haran for the second time? I think most see Abram, Sarai, Lot, and perhaps some sheep and goats. Were those 3 the sum of those who were within thy gates, Abram’s gates?

Abraham’s Gates Started In Ur

The answer to all these questions can be found in the book of Yasher. Oh my – there is so much more to this story than what is available in Torah. Here are a few things to consider:

• Abram’s father Terah was the chief commander of Nimrod’s military forces.
• Because of a sign in the heavens, Nimrod ordered Terah to kill His son Abram.
• Abram lived within Noah and Shem’s gates for 39 years.
• After Abram destroyed his father’s idols when he was 50, Nimrod throws him into a fiery furnace in front of all his servants.
• When Nimrod’s servants (men) saw how Yehovah delivered Abram, they became his servants and called him their lord. Then each of them took their families and followed Him.

Jasher 12:41 And Abram went forth from the king [Nimrod] in peace, and many of the king’s servants followed him, and about three hundred men joined him.
42 And Abram returned on that day and went to his father’s house, he and the men that followed him, and Abram served Yehovah, his Elohim, all the days of his life, and he walked in His ways and followed His law.
43 And from that day forward Abram inclined the hearts of the sons of men to serve Yehovah.
44 And at that time Nahor and Abram took unto themselves wives, the daughters of their brother Haran; the wife of Nahor was Milca and the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai. And Sarai, wife of Abram, was barren; she had no offspring in those days.
45 And at the expiration of two years from Abram’s going out of the fire, that is in the fifty-second year of his life, …

When Abram left Babylon at age 52, and went to Haran, he already had 300 men living “within thy gates”.

Abraham’s Gates Grew In Haran Also

While he was living in Haran he taught many other men to know Yehovah, and they too joined themselves to him.

Jasher 13:20 At that time Abram returned and went to Haran to see his father and mother, and his father’s household, and Abram and his wife and all belonging to him returned to Haran, and Abram dwelt in Haran five years.
21 And many of the people of Haran, about seventy-two men, followed Abram and Abram taught them the instruction of Yehovah and his ways, and he taught them to know Yehovah.
22 In those days Yehovah appeared to Abram in Haran, and he said to him, Behold, I spoke unto thee these twenty years back saying,
23 Go forth from thy land, from thy birth-place and from thy father’s house, to the land which I have shown thee to give it to thee and to thy seed, for there in that land will I bless thee, and make thee a great nation, and make thy name great, and in thee shall the families of the earth be blessed.
24 Now therefore arise, go forth from this place, thou, thy wife, and all belonging to thee [the 300 men, his servants], also every one born in thy house [his servants sons and daughters who were born within thy gates] and all the souls thou hast made in Haran [the 72 men and their families], and bring them out with thee from here, and rise to return to the land of Canaan.

Abraham’s Gates Grow On Their Own

Abram is now 75 years old and leaving Haran for the last time with 500 or 600 men, many who all have families of their own. Get this! Abram rescues Lot just 3 years later, and is able to field a fighting force of 318 men, who were born in his house (within thy gates) to fight an 800,000 strong army, an invading force from the north led by Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Nimrod king of Shinar, and two other kings.

Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. (Gen 14:14)

Abraham’s gates, those living within thy gates, was HUGE! These 318 men were just the “trained servants”. Wow!

Abraham’s Gates 25 Years Later, May Have had Thousands Of Men

When Abram finally came into covenant with Yehovah at the Time of Life and was told to circumcise himself, Ishmael, and all the men of his household (everyone living in Abraham’s gates) there were a lot of men who were circumcised.

And Elohim said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.” (Gen 17:9-14)

In part 3 we will look at Moses’ gates and see that while he was the adon, the master of all Israel’s seed; in time, each of those Ezrach men would be the master of all who will live in their gates. And we will see what happens to all those precious men of Yehovah who will right now leave the kingdom of their birth (just like Abram did) and make Yehovah their only law-maker and judge, their only Elohim. We will see the gates of hell (the belial’s gates) will not be able to stand against each of these 144,000 gates in the last days; and they, with their servants, will make the whole world Yehovah’s kingdom.

Nothing has changed! What has been done, will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
