The translators of the NKJV, and most versions, translate Deuteronomy 24 16 as,
“Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
Oh how I hate the discretionary and deceptive choices of words the translators use to justify their perverted theology. What this verse actually says is this.
“Fathers [אבות, a·vot’] shall not be put to death for sons [בנים, be·nim’], nor shall sons [בנים, be·nim’] be put to death for fathers [אבות, a·vot’]; a man [אישׁ, eesh] shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
Deuteronomy 24 16 – Many Translators Agree
Many translators agree with how I have translated this passage.
(Darby) The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, neither shall the sons be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
(Emphasized Bible) Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, nor shall sons, be put to death for fathers, – every man, for his own sin, shall he put to death. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
(Hebraic Roots Bible) The fathers shall not be executed for sons, and sons shall not be executed for fathers; they each shall be executed for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
(Literal Version) The fathers shall not die for sons, and sons shall not die for fathers; they each shall die for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
(MKJV) The fathers shall not be put to death for the sons, neither shall the sons be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
(NASB) “Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24 16)
Now consider these passages.
“Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father [האב, ha·av‘] as well as the soul of the son [הבן, ha·ben’] is Mine; the soul who sins shall die. But if a man [אישׁ, an eesh] is just and does what is lawful and right; … if he has walked in My statutes — and kept My judgments faithfully — he is just; He shall surely live!,” says my Master, Yehovah. (Eze 18:4-5, 9)
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, Yehovah, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man [אישׁ, eesh] according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. (Jer 17:9-10)
And the man [והאישׁ, ve·ha·eesh’] who is clean and is not on a journey, and ceases to keep the Passover, that same person shall be cut off from among his people, because he did not bring the offering of Yehovah at its appointed time; and that man [והאישׁ, ve·ha·eesh] shall bear his sin. (Num 9:13)
It is all very clear; Yehovah is talking about men, males, NOT women. Practically every time in the Torah benim is translated as “sons” and eesh is translated as “man” or “a man.” Yet when the truth does not fit their “Christian” theology, these translators simply pervert the truth of Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging word.
Torah does not talk about a woman’s sin; and a woman was never commanded to keep any of Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging ways; save one!
“… your desire shall be for your man and he shall rule over you!” (Gen 3:16)
A woman can not bring a kha·ta·at’ (a sin offering) into the temple, she is not even allowed past the door.
This perversion comes because we do not understand the foundations that were laid in place in Genesis 2 concerning the “the man.” and the Creation of his woman. We treat woman as if they were men and believe that men and women both come to Yehovah in the same way. Augh! What foolishness that perverted understanding is. We have learned lies, worthless and unprofitable things.
‘The man’, his woman and all every living thing that dwells on the earth were each created by Yehovah with a specific purpose in mind. A dog knows how to live as a dog and it does not pretend that it is a cat. A pig was designed to eat the crap of the earth and it does it very well. All the animals do what they were created to do; and that is good and right in the sight of Yehovah.
But the ‘the man’ and his woman have each deviated from their created purpose and they each have gone their own ways. There were only 8 persons who made it from the antediluvian world, to the the world we know and that is because Noah walked with Elohim, not his woman.
I will suggest to you that the average person, a man and a woman, has no more relationship with Yehovah than a dog or a pig; no, I take that back, the dog and the pig are closer to Yehovah because they are living according to Yehovah’s created purpose for them. When Yehovah brings His final judgment on this world, he will use the beasts of the earth to accomplish part of that judgment. And the dogs and the pigs will all do as they are instructed.
For thus says my master, Yehovah: “How much more it shall be when I send My four severe judgments on Jerusalem [those who call themselves his people] – the sword and famine and evil living things [וחיה רעה, va·chai·yah’ ra·ah’] and pestilence to cut off man [a·dam] and beast [be·he·mah]? (Eze 14:21)
A man, an eesh, has only one goal in this life if he wishes to live eternally with Yehovah. Repent, leave the kingdom of his birth (with his family), join himself to Yehovah as His servant and then, at Passover, come into covenant with Him and become His spiritual seed.
And a woman has only one thing she must do. She must become a woman of worth by humbling herself and making the dreams, desires, goals and hopes of her man, her only goal; she becomes the servant of her man just as he must learn to become the servant of Yehovah.
Well this verse in Deuteronomy has far-reaching implications. If a man’s most cherished person in the world, his son, can not die for his sins and vice versa; how can some man who we have never personally met die for anyone?
Yehovah says, “A man must be put to death for his on sins!” (Deuteronomy 24 16)
