Intentional And Unintentional Sin

TzitzitI am amazed at how much we, who call ourselves Yehovah’s people, are involved in unintentional sin. The more I study Torah the more I see just how far we have gone away from Yehovah’s eternal and unchanging ways. But there is something worse than unintentional sin, it is the sin which is done openly for all to see and emulate; this open rebellion bring a reproach on Yehovah!

This chapter (Numbers 15) finishes with a discussions of why only Yehovah’s son, the Ezrach, wear tzitzit and is certainly related to unintentional sin for many today.

In the first part of Numbers 16 we will see 254 men, leaders of Yehovah people, who “look” honorable but are the first to be destroyed at the beginning of our 40 years in the wilderness; all because we would not believe Yehovah and hear and obey Moses.

Korah Leads A Revolt

KorahIn our second year in the wilderness Korah leads a revolt against Moses and Aaron.

Yehovah’s rebellious people have just found out that they must remain in the wilderness for 40 years because they refuse to follow His word and ways given to them through Moses. Sound familiar?

Here is a case where little leaven can spoil the whole loaf. The men who die first are some of Israel’s most respected leaders and princes, including Korah, Dathan and Abiram; and after that, thousands more are killed by Yehovah because they will not listen to Moses. Only two men, over 20 years old, out of 600,000+ men will survive the 40 years because they were not apart of this rebellious people. Now is the time to come out of the kingdom of our birth and learn to follow only Moses.

We too are getting ready to go into the wilderness for a bit over 3 1/2 years; that is assuming we are wise enough to become one of Yehovah set-apart men, or at least join ourselves to them when the pillars of fire and smoke appear over them all over the earth. Will we survive in Yehovah’s camp? Or will we also be some of His rebellious people who will need to be destroyed before He brings us into His the millennial kingdom? Will we learn from history, or repeat it?

Red Heifer

red heiferThere is a reason why men who know, understand and obey Yehovah’s word “sigh and cry over all the abominations” that are committed in Jerusalem, the holy city, Zion, Yehovah’s set-apart people. This is the story of the red heifer.

Now the glory of the Israel’s Elohim had gone up from the cherub, where it had been, to the threshold of the temple. And He called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn at his side; and Yehovah said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it.” (Eze 9:3-4)

Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean Shall no longer come to you. Shake yourself from the dust, arise; Sit down, O Jerusalem! Loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive daughter of Zion! (Isa 52:1-2)

We will start by talking about the recompense that the priests and the Levites receive for their services in Numbers 18. And, then in Numbers 19 we will learn about the whole, red, female cow, with no blemishes [no moom] which has never had a yoke on it (a.k.a. the “red heifer“); and find out why it is important to Israel and all the women, children servants, and Ger who dwell with them.

Casting of lots

Decisions! We make thousands of them in the course of a single day. The majority of our decisions do not have long-term consequences, but there are some that do, some that will affect the lives of others. Sometimes our decisions are just not clear ones and we are forced to choose between two good or even two not so good things.

Numbers 16 is the first time I see the casting of lots in the scriptures. The high priest uses a lot to decide which of two identical goats is going to die and which is going to be released into the wilderness. This casting of lots is a shadow picture of an event which will happen at the end of the tribulation. Yehovah will decide at some future Kippurim service which men (with their families) will make it into the millennial kingdom alive and which ones won’t; just like Noah was delivered from the antediluvian world into this one safe and sound.

LOT, n.

1. That which, in human speech, is called chance, hazard, fortune; but in strictness of language, is the determination of providence; as, the land shall be divided by lot.

2. That by which the fate or portion of one is determined; that by which an event is committed to chance, that is, to the determination of providence; as, to cast lots; to draw lots. (Webster 1828 Dictionary)

The casting of lots works for Yehovah’s men because they have come out from the kingdom of their birth, made themselves fully His  and then have come into covenant with Him at Passover as His son. These men (with their families) are His segulah, His special treasure that he talks about in Exodus 19. He cares what happens to these men and desires to lead and guide them in His providence. The casting of lots is Israel’s way to establish Yehovah’s will in their lives; lots were, and can still be used, to bring peace and contentment to some difficult decisions.

The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from Yehovah. (Pro 16:33)

Casting of lots causes contentions to cease, and keeps the mighty apart. (Pro 18:18)

Killing Of Wild Game In Torah

After writing the first 8 articles on how Yehovah’s son, the Ezrach is to properly slaughter, eat and dispose of any animals eaten from the herd (cattle) or flock (sheep and goats) as commanded in Leviticus 3, 7 and 17; it seems appropriate that I also address the killing of wild game (deer, elk, moose, etc.) and birds (chicken, turkey, etc.) as described in Leviticus 17 as well.

Most folks, those who have any exposure to the Hebrew roots of the faith which all of Yehovah’s great men have lived and taught, are aware of what clean 4-footed animals and clean birds are available for His people to eat. But very few are aware of how they are to be killed, and by whom. Yehovah’s instructions in Leviticus 17 are brief.

wild game and birds“And any man [eesh, eesh] of Israel’s seed [they are the Ezrach in Yehovah’s kingdom], or the Stranger [the Ger] who dwells among you, who hunts and catches any animal or bird that may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with dust; for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life. Therefore I said to Israel’s seed, ‘You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.’ (Lev 17:13-14)

Again, as it was with the beef, sheep and goat, it is the “man man” or “any man” who kills the animals; not a woman. But, in this case wild 4-footed animals (as opposed to domestic animals which are slaughtered to Yehovah by only His son) and birds can be killed by both the Ezrach and the Ger who dwells with them.

Notice: There is no provision here for a Gentile to kill meat and sell this (already been killed) meat to the Ezrach or to the Ger.

There are two things that troubled me about the meat I was previously buying from the market. The first, and most obvious is, I did not kill it! But the second issue for me requires a bit longer explanation.

Meat sacrificed to idols – 8 (an altar to Yehovah)

We saw last time that meat slaughtered to “se-i-rim” or “idols” is the opposite of meat slaughtered to Yehovah.

When I learn new instructions from my Father’s word, I always do my best to conform my life to my new understandings. And when I finally understood what Leviticus chapters 3, 7, 17 were saying about Yehovah’s clean meats, and especially the meat that comes from the herd (cattle) and the flock (sheep and goats), I had to make some major changes to my diet. I saw that there are many ways that a man can get kicked out of Israel for treating this meat improperly. And, the only meat we eat (from the herd or from the flock) is meat that we kill properly.

But currently we have no tabernacle, no temple and no priesthood, so what does a man do if he wants to eat beef, lamb or goat?

When we came out of Egypt the first time, we did not have a tabernacle for almost a year. So, I had to ask myself, what did we do then? What did Enoch, Methuselah and all the righteous men in the antediluvian world do? What did Noah, Shem, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob do?
