This is part 2 of 2 in the series “The way of Balaam.” Here is a link to part 1, “The way of Balaam”
Balaam brought forth 4 messages from Yehovah; the first 2 were the result of his encounter with Yehovah through divination and the latter two were the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened and was moved by spirit Elohim. All 4 messages were about Yehovah’s spiritual men, Israel: Who they are, where they came from, where they are going and what they will do in the last days.
Israel (please don’t confuse the Israel I am talking about with the STATE OF ISRAEL which is currently in the promised land) is depicted as an ox who will eat up their enemies as it eats up grass.
So Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” (Num 22:4)
Elohim [Israel’s lawmaker and judge] brings them out of Egypt; he has strength like a wild ox. “For there is no sorcery against Jacob, nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘Oh, what Elohim has done!‘ Look, a people rises like a lioness, and lifts itself up like a lion; it shall not lie down until it devours the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.” (Num 23:22-24)
“God brings him out of Egypt; he has strength like a wild ox; he shall consume the nations, his enemies; he shall break their bones and pierce them with his arrows. ‘He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?‘ “Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you.” (Num 24:8-9)
What can grass do to defend against a hungry ox, or what prey, a lion? The same thing that the nations can do to defend themselves from Israel. NOTHING! We must ask our selves (I’m speaking to men) “Am I numbered among the nations?” Or Yehovah’s called out people? Hint: Check your wallet.
So much of what Balaam says is found in Yehovah’s word given through His prophets. No surprises there; Balaam is speaking Yehovah’s words.
He will lift up a banner [His servant scattered throughout the earth] to the nations from afar, and will whistle to them from the end of the earth; Surely they shall come with speed, swiftly. No one will be weary or stumble among them, no one will slumber or sleep; nor will the belt on their loins be loosed, nor the strap of their sandals be broken. Whose arrows are sharp, And all their bows bent; Their horses’ hooves will seem like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind. Their roaring will be like a lion, they will roar like young lions; Yes, they will roar and lay hold of the prey; They will carry it away safely, and no one will deliver. In that day they will roar against them like the roaring of the sea. And if one looks to the land, behold, darkness and sorrow; and the light is darkened by the clouds. (Isa 5:26-30)
Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; and like swift steeds, so they run. With a noise like chariots over mountaintops they leap, like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble. Like a strong people set in battle array. Before them the people writhe in pain; all faces are drained of color. They run like mighty men, they climb the wall like men of war; every one marches in formation, and they do not break ranks. They do not push one another; every one marches in his own column. Though they lunge between the weapons, they are not cut down. They run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall; they climb into the houses, they enter at the windows like a thief. The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness. (Joe 2:4-10)
As Elohim overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says Yehovah, “So no one shall reside there, nor son of man dwell in it. “Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation and many kings shall be raised up from the ends of the earth. They shall hold the bow and the lance; they are cruel and shall not show mercy. Their voice shall roar like the sea; They shall ride on horses, set in array, like a man for the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon [you who were never left the kingdom of you birth]. “The king of Babylon has heard the report about them, and his hands grow feeble; anguish has taken hold of him, pangs as of a woman in childbirth. (Jer 50:40-43)
Balaam says more about the last days and the final defeat of the Assyrian than do most of the prophets. The picture of the last day which he paints is an amazing one. Proverbs says “the complacency of fools will destroy them.” Please take the time to listen to what Yehovah said through Balaam, you will be glad you did if you have ears that hear.
